Teaching Focus

Ali’s teaching and research focus on analytical and instrumental chemistry. He teaches CHM 3120, CHM3120L, and CHM 4130 and has extensive experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical chemistry including advanced separations, mass spectrometry, and sample preparation as well as general chemistry. His research explores the development and characterization of carbon-based and semiconductor materials for environmental and energy applications, particularly in catalytic reactions. He is also deeply interested in enhancing analytical chemistry education through active learning, problem-based instruction, and laboratory innovations that strengthen students’ quantitative reasoning and technical skills.
