Brent Sumerlin receives Macro Group UK Medal for Outstanding Achievement

The University of Florida Department of Chemistry congratulates Brent S. Sumerlin, George Bergen Butler Professor of Chemistry, on receiving the Macro Group UK Medal for Outstanding Achievement.
The medal is awarded by Macro Group UK, a professional organization affiliated with the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Society for Chemical Industry. The Group exists to encourage and enhance polymer chemistry in the United Kingdom by promoting scientific meetings and fostering interactions across the polymer community.
According to the organization, the Macro Group UK Medal for Outstanding Achievement is awarded to a scientist from any country who is recognized internationally for continued outstanding achievements in the field of polymer science. Sumerlin will be awarded a gold medal and deliver a medal award lecture at Aston University (UK) in September 2026.
Sumerlin was selected in recognition of his sustained excellence and broad contributions to polymer science. His work spans the development of innovative polymerization methodologies, the design of advanced functional materials, and new approaches that enhance sustainability within polymer research. Through these efforts, he has helped shape contemporary thinking about how polymers are synthesized, structured, and ultimately deconstructed.
The award reflects scientific achievement and continued leadership in advancing the scope and impact of polymer chemistry on an international stage.
