Research Focus

Research in the Pendergast Group focuses on developing electrochemical methods to quantify and control chemical reactivity at the nanoscale. We are particularly interested in how the structure of interfaces and interphases governs electrochemical charge transfer processes. Our group combines electrochemical scanning probe microscopies, nano- and microfabrication, continuum modeling, and correlated spectroelectrochemical methods to uncover the nanoscale microenvironments that emerge at electrochemical interfaces. Students in the Pendergast Group will gain expertise in both fundamental and applied electrochemistry as we study problems including single-particle phase transformations, electrochemically programmable separations, and multiphase electrosynthesis.
